I didn't like it. What am I missing? [[SPOILERS]]
Some SPOILERS may apply:
I saw this movie because it heard one or two good words about it.
But I didn't like it.
So many things didn't work for me:
1. The plot hole about the troglodytes kidnapping three people. And doing a 5 day horse-journey back to their caves. On foot! While our protagonists need horses to barely give them chase.
2. Lili Simmons delivery. Right at the end, we see her character again. She's been captive for several days now. Shouldn't she be out of her mind? Frantic? In shock? At the very least she should have screamed when the troglodytes dismembered the deputy right in front of her. But nothing.
3. Then there's stuff that just make no sense. "Mini plot holes" if you will:
a. Our main hero has a broken foot. But somehow he manages to climb to a cave several stories high up on a hill. How did he do that?
b. When they cut the deputy and disembowel him in the middle of the cave, there's no trace of blood. At all.
c. Matthew Fox's perfectly combed hair after 4 days on the trail, in the middle of the desert.
d. Right at the very end. Don't know if they inverted the image or what happened, but Patrick Wilson's character has his leg wound on the wrong leg. Such a terrible mistake.
4. Also, the cinematography. Was it me, or did the first few scenes seemed like they were lit in a way you could tell there were lamps all around them?
Even in the early "on the trail" scenes, light was coming from everywhere in the middle of the desert. At night.
5. The pacing. Some scenes felt like they could have ended a lot sooner. The characters just kept talking, with no point whatsoever. Just repeating stuff, not adding any new information or character nuance.
I'm a bit surprised to read so many good comments about the movie on this board.
Honestly, it looks like a made-for-tv movie with extra shock value.
I wished I could have liked it.
I'd love to see a scary western.
