box office...uk/us ?

was this a flop in the u.s.as well as the u.k...any ideas ?

Did it really flop in Britain? I've read that it was one of the biggest-grossing British films of the year at the domestic box-office, and has made more money than any of Mike Leigh's previous pictures:

Admittedly this may not be saying much!

i was watching the BAFTA`s and the comment was "nobody went to see it" even though it was nominated for awards,it won not a single one.i can`t find a UK budget/box office for it...the US box office appears to be about $3.5 million on the back of an $8 million dollar budget.....

Sorry, I tried posting a link to a Guardian article that mentions box-office but it doesn't work. It says 'with UK takings of £6.58m, Mr Turner is among the 10 highest-grossing British films of 2014'. Wikipedia (for what that's worth) says it had a budget of £8.4 million and has grossed $15.6 million. (This must be globally.) I think that means it's made a modest profit, and that this is unusual for Mike Leigh's movies. In 2000 Andrew Duncan did an interview with him for the Radio Times and challenged him on how much taxpayer's money Topsy Turvy had cost, and made so little, and Leigh seemed at a loss for words, as if he didn't expect his pictures to make money at all... About the BAFTAs, did someone say that at the ceremony?

i`m not sure why i`m even interested in this to start with ?,i`m not a Mike Leigh fan,i find most of his films too "kitchen sink",in fact i used to say "life is hard enough without watching Mike Leigh films"...lol........i think i was intrigued after seeing a programme about Turner himself....the "nobody went to see it comment" came from-i THINK-Film 2015-probably not the best place to get film recommendations from...if not there then another tv programme.

My girlfriend and me saw it yesterday in mid-America USA at 4 on a Saturday afternoon and the theater was about 2/3 filed, which was more than I expected for an historical film. That seems a good sign.

My husband and I liked Topsy Turvy so much I bought the video for his birthday. Next weekend, we plan ti sww Mr. Turner when it comes to our town.

We enjoyed Mr. Turner. You just have to let movies of this quality happen.
