I really need some help (Parental Guide)

My auntie's asked if I want to go and see this with her - but the thing is I have one major problem: I find it really difficult to watch films with any sex scenes with family members. I just get majorly uncomfortable and embarrassed and it just ruins the whole experience for me.

So far, IMDB hasn't published any kind of Parental Guide like they usually do, otherwise I'd check that. So is there anyone out there who's already seen this, who can give me a guide to any sex scenes there might be in this?

And before anyone starts - I'm not some perv looking for details, nor do I need telling to "grow a pair." I'm well aware that it's weird I feel this uncomfortable - my family's just kind of conservative, and this is rated R so I figured there's got to be a sex scene or two in there somewhere.

SPOILERS... obviously.

There's really only one sex scene, if you can even call it that. Turner has sex with his housekeeper and both are fully clothed so you see nothing. It is deeply un-erotic and, though consensual, nobody is enjoying themselves. I found the scene disturbing and rather sad. Turner also goes to see a prostitute, but nothing sexual happens.

I really enjoyed the film and found Turner's life and character fascinating. Great performances from the cast and a brilliant one from the wonderful Timothy Spall. I'd recommend seeing it, even if not with your aunt.

It was hideous.
It may have put me off sex for good. I realised after watching it that my mouth was open in disgust the whole scene. Gag.

Plus, he's an ugly crier.

I saw the film yesterday with my husband and there is a really embarrassing bit in it where Mr Turner has sex with a female, against a bookcase (I won't spoil the plot for you by saying who it is). I was very surprised at how graphic it was, bearing in mind that the film is a 12A (UK classification*). It was really cringey, too - if had just been a shoulders upwards shot, it would just about have been ok. They were fully dressed, but it left nothing to the imagination.

The film is excellent, so just don't go with your Aunt/mother!

*What does the 12A symbol mean?
Films classified 12A and video works classified 12 contain material that is not generally suitable for children aged under 12. No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. Adults planning to take a child under 12 to view a 12A film should consider whether the film is suitable for that child.

No need to tag yourself as 'weird' about such scenes making you feel uncomfortable. :)

As previous comments say the sex scene is a bit uncomfortable to watch, regardless if you're watching it alone or with family, I think because there is no build-up and it's a bit raw - without giving away too much.

Hope it's not giving too much away but wanted to give you a clear idea of anything that could cause discomfort: Although the brothel scene doesn't have a sexual act in it - the audience does not know for some time that there will not be one.. it seems it is building up to one which could cause discomfort in itself on top of the small amount of nudity in it (she shows him her 'wares' when they get into the bedroom).

Hope that helps you decide whether you want to see it with family or not. Either way - I definitely recommend it if you like character-based films, the victorian era ... and some of the cinematography is beautiful.

About five minutes into the film Turner puts his hand on his maids outer clothing and massages her breast, his hand then goes down her dress and he pushes his hand towards her vagina and rubs the area between her legs.

In the brothel scene we see the prostitute turn around and lift her skirt revealing her naked buttocks and one assumes if you freeze the frame and focus you could see a bit more as she bends .

The kitchen scene has been mentioned.

In the landladies house she is seen lingering outside Turners room with his shoes in hand the door opens. They kiss passionately, he then runs his hand down her back and grabs her buttocks and pulls them with his hands, she then leads him to her room.

I know this is a bit late - but I've only just seen your topic. I remember as a teenager being embarrassed watching 'sexual bits' on TV with my family. They sort of "ambush" you and are excruciating. You can easily handle such scenes from your own knowledge of sexuality but equally, you have no wish to share them with respected parents and other family members. The scenes in which Mr T lunges at the ladies in his life are brief, unerotic, understandable, a little sad - but not unimportant. These are unprepossessing people struggling with their physical needs. Unlike today, it was an age of suffocating social norms when many were also bewildered by their own animal desires.
You've probably seen Mr Turner by now. If not - wait till you can go with a school friend. It's a wonderful film; with a fabulous cast of talented British actors, coaxed by a great director to astonish us with their gifts. And they do.

It's really pretty benign. Turner does thrust into a woman against a bookcase but they keep their clothes on the whole time and it's not graphic at all. I'm honestly shocked that this movie was rated R.

You MUST see Boyhood! There is a wonderful scene when Ethan Hawke as the dad is trying to be cool and talk to his daughter about birth control, and the expressions that cross her face throughout the entire conversation are just priceless.
