How realistic is that movie?

First of all: I love this movie in all its strange wonderfulness...

so... I ask myself: How realistic is it? the personal stuff... the stuff in the brothel as example... are those scenes "out of public" invented or known or gossip (i would prefer the 2nd two options -.-')

Trivial scenes were mostly fictional, bcs he was awfully secretive about private matters.

Existence of his alleged daughters people (very few) knew only because they were mentioned in his will.

About his last mistress (very few knew) only because he died in her house.

And in contrast, real was the scene about "spoiling" his work when applying the famous red buoy.

This is not exactly "personal stuff," but in reality John Ruskin became the most highly respected art critic of his time as well as a fierce champion and defender of Turner.
