Sorry but Chadwick won't get an Oscar Nom

Unfortunately, and I love the movie, but it's bombing at the boxo. Unless they re-release it later on and it gets an audience, I feel he won't be in the mix for an award. And he deserves a nom.

I agree - he certainly won't get one. It's a shame this film had to be released on the same day as Guardians/Galaxy.

Six Words For You Terrence Howard in Hustle and Flow

If you remember Hustle and Flow was released back in July 2005 and only had a Domestic Total Gross: $22,202,809. Get On Up is already at $24,724,095 and if Universal wants to do a PUSH for Chadwick they can, since they don't really have any other Oscar Worthy movies coming out in the FALL so anything is possible. If Howard can get nominated for playing a PIMP, there's no reason why Chadwick can't as well. Furthermore back in 1983, Tender Mercies was a HUGE FLOP but it still won a Oscar for Robert Duvall.

An Oscar nomination has nothing to do with how much money the movie made at the box office. If the "movie critics" liked that particular performance by an actor, THEY are the ones that have the influence to push for a nomination.

For instance Marion Cortilord who did that French movie. Yves En Rose (sp?) It wasn't that popular at the box office at all with the french subtitles, but the critics praised her performance and she was nominated and won.

Its the performance and opinions of the movie critics about their performance, that gets an actor nominated.

Although at the time, Academy awards were won by performances and movies released all year-round, not just from September to December, and they were not used as a promotion for dvd sales and international releases so it was a very different situation.

Don't expect Universal to push for Chadwick or the movie. If they had wanted to, or thought the odds of getting a nomination or two were good, they would have released during "Oscar bait season". The fact they didn't is probably linked to focus group testing.

the movie business is all that: a business.

It has nothing to do with box office, it has to do with if the critic award groups help him out or not. He is pretty much guaranteed a globe nod for best musical performance.

Terrance Howard had the critics groups backing him and that's why he scored the nod.

He also had way better material than this.

It depends on what kind of competition there is....most of the "Oscar" movies get released in the fall so it's hard to say who the contenders are. But I agree...with the movie doing so poorly it's an uphill battle at this point. Sad, he deserves it.
