Very good review - I really enjoyed the movie, but felt the non-linear script structure stopped it from finding the huge audience it deserved. The acting was first-rate and in another year, Chadwick Boseman would have a lock on an Oscar.
shareExactly. The acting was superb and I even liked the way they tried to "chapter" his life with various titles. But the musical legend that was James Brown deserves a more accessible movie. I would have preferred more traditional storytelling, even by showing exactly how he influenced music. Maybe that's more documentary like but if they could have fit that into a fictionalized movie it would be great. Just throwing the words up at the end doesn't really explain it.
