Where were Fred Wesley and The JBs or Lynn Collins?

The film is good but the James Brown I grew up with is missing. No Doing It To Death, Pass The Peas, Gimme Some More, Big Payback or other songs during his most soulful period with trombonist, Fred Wesley as arranger and band leader are included. The Boss from Black Caesar is mentioned but the film isn't. I felt that at least 10 or 20 minutes more featuring Fred and others during that time (late sixties to mid - seventies before George Clinton took over the funk) should have been included.

They were never in the script due to pacing according to the commentary.

That is a pathetic excuse.

ITA. "Marvelous" Marva Whitney was MIA as well.

Helga, I'm not mad at you; I'm mad at the dirt.

Correction to my last post: Marva Whitney is depicted as being on his Vietnam tour. She's on that plane with JB and the guys. If you blink (as I obviously did on my first viewing), you'll miss her.
