The music, man

A lot of people on this board are complaining about a lot of things about this movie: Chadwick Boseman (I thought he was terrific), the historical accuracy (what informed person relies on a Hollywood biopic for that?), what was left out (the movie would have run 4 hours), the white director (please!). Hardly anyone mentioned the music. If you’re a James Brown fan, the only things better are the widely available videos of his actual performances. So many good songs in this movie, and presented so well. Contrast that with the anemic Jimi Hendrix biopic, which had its moments but suffered greatly from the lack of Hendrix music. For sheer entertainment value, I think “Get On Up” succeeds greatly.

Yeah the music sounded so good, I was blown away every time they played live. Especially in the theater, it really needed that boost from being surrounded by huge speakers. Whoever mastered/mixed this deserves an award though, the levels of each instrument and singer was fantastic. As an audio driven person, I couldn't really ask for anything better.

Thought this is probably the best musical biopic i've ever seen too. The acting was great, the writing was strong, the directing was confident, and the whole thing really brought his music/dancing front and center (as it should be) As someone who was lucky enough to see JB live before he passed, the moves were spot on I thought...
