Is this the last Paranormal Activity Movie?

I saw one blog review and the blogger says this is the last Paranormal Activity Movie
So Is that right?

reply

That's how it was marketed. Apparently "every secret will be revealed". If you ask me though, it still finished very open-ended and it didn't answer many questions.

I don't think they had any intention of ending it conclusively while the films still sell tickets and they can milk the franchise.

reply

I wonder how it would of turned out if the original directors of the first 3 directed it?

But I doubt the ending would of changed, Toby wanted a human vessel, what else could of happened?

reply

Yeah. But Oren Peli was still involved with producing this.

The problem was, since it was supposed to be the last, it should have properly included Hunter and Katie. Instead we get yet another new family and discover Toby conveniently needs yet ANOTHER kid. And considering how easy it is to get this girl it just contradicts the earlier films and the roundabout way that Hunter needed to be taken. If they needed this girl then why wasn't she abducted as a baby? And ... wait ... so now we learn Hunter was taken because of his birthday? What happened to the whole 'firstborn male' in Kristi and Katie's family and THAT being the reason of the hauntings?

Not to mention the time travel. I liked it in Marked Ones because it was neat and made a cool little circle with the first film without contradicting the plot. But now we're expected to believe everybody had to be taken back to 1992 or whenever ... why??? And so Toby is now 'real' ... then how does that explain the events in the first films even happening? Surely the apocalypse should already have happened.

I don't know, this film seemed sloppy as a continuation but if this is truly meant as the last one then it makes *beep* all sense and isn't a satisfying ending.

reply

Actually, the storyline isn't as sloppy as you think, bear with me here, there's going to be some things here that'll hurt your brain, but it'll be worth it.

So let's get this straight, Leila and Hunter have the same birthday, the reason Leila has to complete the ritual with Hunter is because Emily was marked like Kristi was? In the unrated cut Leila asks Emily if she died when she was a baby, to which Emily replies that when she was born the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck which made it hard for her to breathe, so this could of gave Toby the chance to meet Leila in her near death experience, I mean why else would they of added that minor scene? it seemed to hold some significance.

Leila seemed to be more 'special' because when Kent told Katie about how there was a special girl just like her and they would need her to find her, and this takes place right after Julie's and Dennis's deaths, so this makes it sound as if Katie and Kristi with the help of Kent and Lois opened a doorway to the fleeges residence which was built on top of K and K's childhood home, which allowed them to send Toby to them because they opened a doorway in the same location but at a previous time, this sounds like some sort of weird
time dilation which means the events DID occur at the same time, but it was just delayed.

THIS is why Toby didn't abduct newborn Leila like he did with Hunter, because they reached out to Leila through Krist's trance state and when Leila played Bloody Mary and you saw a hand print on the mirror, Toby already knew of Leila before her conception, just like he knew Kristi would have Hunter even though she was still a child as shown by the words 'HUNTER' in Leila's room when the priest asks if it means anything to Ryan.

And Kristi's trance state actually guided Toby through the fleeges residence, it's all occurring simultaneously.

I know it sounds crazy at first, but when you begin to dissect the events, it actually starts to come together.

Now about Toby gaining human form in 1992, ....I got nothing.

reply

Props for your explanation, which does tie things up a bit neater, but I still think you're giving the plot more credit than its due ;)

What are your thoughts regarding the time travel? I did wonder if that - because Toby now has human form back in the past - it does end the films because the future events are now irrelevant.

reply

Yes if we go by my explanation, 1992-2013 has effectively linked up into one through space and time and Toby's 'materialization' in 1992 has made everything leading up to this moment irrelevant because Toby finally has what he's wanted, completely erased, either that or Toby will go back to 2013 through the time portal to Leila's bedroom but it honestly looks like that isn't the case.

I wish the Director and script writers would at least confirm this or explain everything in a concise and clear way.

reply

None of that explains why the demon would haunt ADULT Katie. Or why it would still even be a demon.

reply

Yeah... I retract my explanation, if Toby was human in 1992 he couldn't of been in
spirit form in the movies after 3, and because those movies don't happen, the events of 2013 cannot happen so it destroys the entire timeline.

...Didn't you watch 2? Toby haunted Kristi first to get Hunter, but he was exorcised and transferred to a blood relative (Katie) and that's how 1 starts.

Well, unless you claim the ending of Ghost Dimension or should I say 'Plothole Dimension'? 'canon' which I no longer do after realizing the sheer stupidity that went into it, Toby
is still a demon and we'll most likely never find out his true goal mostly due to
Gregory plotkin and the main team abandoning it, Shame. Oh well, 1 to 3 will always be classics.

reply

true that

reply

Excellent explanation! In terms of time travel and the order of events then, in my view, time is no longer a straight line. In order for Toby to obtain a body in 1992, the other events from all the other movies had to take place because that's how things had to unfold for the events in Ghost Dimension to happen. I know it sounds a bit weird but it makes sense in my head. We don't get to see what happens after Toby gets a human body - it could be that he has a part to play in ensuring those events from the other movies happen so that he can get his human form. It's kinda like a time loop I guess. Sorry if I'm not explaining myself intelligently or at all. I would like to see what Toby does next - it could either be a very clever way to shake things up or it could be the final nail in the coffin for the franchise - obviously it would need to rebooted by someone else as the current crew say that Ghost Dimension was the last movie (even though it leaves more questions unanswered than it actually answers!)

Let's hope so.

reply

So they say. But how many times have we heard that about Halloween? Nightmare on Elm Street? Friday the 13th? I'm sure there full of *beep*

reply

We can only hope... ;)

reply

On the trivia segment, it says there'll be one more. Maybe we'll see what Tobi will do now he's in solid form

reply

At least this one was better than the last one. It was closer to the first 4 numbered ones. The (#5 The Marked Ones) was the worst of them all.

reply

They said it would be the last to get people to buy tickets. And they can make more for any reasons after.

I hope so. I love the first one, but now is just a piece of crap.
