I would love to see people disappear, but it not be the rapture


Now that would freak people out.

Also, since no one left behind believes in Jesus and heaven, the rapture would not be believed. It would just be people disappearing for no reason. People need proof of heaven, and the rapture would not be proof.

I haven't read the original series of books on which this was based, actually coming after the Kirk Cameron movies which were made in the early 2000's. But I think they get pretty involved and go far to explain the theology.

I'm not sure it's the rapture that happens in The Leftovers, it's still unexplained and probably will stay that way since the showrunners have stated that they won't go into the "why" but more "what now". Who knows they might change their mind, but so far it doesn't seem that the Christians only disappeared on that show. :)

What I don't understand is why the movie doesn't show what was going In Washington DC, i assume that all politicians, lobbyists and lawyers were 'poofed', and I guess that there'll be an immense lack of mechanics worldwide as well.
