Why I didn't hate this
Yeah, some strikingly bad dialogue and some other technical weaknesses. And the doe-eyed saved/not-saved attitude that has irritated non-believers for two thousand years and can come across kinda smug. But it did have some "redeeming" features -- a few good performances, it was shot pretty well, etc. Take it as a disaster movie down a whole shelf from something kind of so-so to crappy like "The Core."
The thing I liked was treating Evangelical mythology literally. I don't believe in the Rapture, must Christians don't, but I thought the movie stirred up some thoughts on our death and heaven. Hardcore haters will have none of it, but most people in the world believe in God, and it's nice to have a movie that actually talks about final things, even if the movie has huge flaws. It's something we probably should talk about more.
Anyone else feel that way about it?
