What was the point of this remake?
The original with Kirk Cameron had a Lifetime Original Movie look. This one was just as bad. What's the point of remaking the film if they don't have anymore money?

shareThe book's authors actually hate the Kirk Cameron trilogy. They've always wanted their books adapted into big budget Hollywood blockbusters so then the "message" can reach wider audiences. Course I'm sure money is also a major factor in their decision, whether they admit it or not.
This film was basically an attempt to produce a Hollywood blockbuster with a "big" star, and tone down the preachy religious content of the books and previous films. It didn't work, and the result was essentially a boring, lackluster disaster movie.
What they should have done is stop taking the material so seriously. Embrace the absurdity. Have Jesus and Satan sword fight on top of the White House or something. Give us something worth seeing.
There was another reboot earlier this year. Vanished: Left Behind - Next Genertation, which actually does feature the Anti-Christ Nicolae Carpathia. I haven't seen it, but I'm told it's very loosely based on a series of LEFT BEHIND books targeted to kids.

That would be cool-looking. I'm sure the creators would hate it.
Waiting for the obligatory joke about Obama doing a cameo role.. (But for *whom*?)
What's the point? Money I imagine. I guess yeah the author wanted to "get his message across" as well too, but money is probably the main factor.
