There are supposed to be so many Christians in the US. In fact, most Christians will refer to the US as a Christian country. You would think that there would be more Christian movies and that the Christian movies that are made would be more popular. But, that isn't the case.
Not every Christian automatically likes Christian films. Many Christian films over the past few years have been, in my opinion, very annoying, stupid, petty, self-pitying, or worse judgemental. In the case of LEFT BEHIND (2014), I'd say it's because the film is boring. They toned down the religious aspects to appeal to a wider audience, when they probably should have done the complete opposite. Embrace the absurdity, and have fun. They're clearly taking the subject matter way too seriously.
There is no shortage of stories in the bible that could be made into movies - and a lot of those stories have the potential for sex, violence and CGI special effects. Just like comic book movies.
I would love to see more of that. Especially based on the Book of Revelations. I can't even count the amount of films about the Birth and Death of Jesus, and for the life of me can't think of one single film in which Jesus and Satan battle on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Perhaps they're aiming for family friendly films, or maybe it's a budget concern. It's also possible the fund-raisers consider the idea belittling to Christianity.
CLASH OF THE TITANS, GODS OF EGYPT and hell even Marvel's THOR are all inspired by what were once considered mainstream religions. Now-a-days people look at those stories as nothing more than goofy fairy tales adapted into mindless Hollywood schlock. I wonder how long before Jesus falls into that category. Imagine Jesus being an Avenger, and you'll see what I'm getting at.
Is it possible that Christians in the US exaggerate their importance?
I suspect. But then again all religions do that.
