In the second novel

It was mentioned that the Pope was raptured

The rapture of the Pope is one of the debated events in the LB series. The text says that the fictional John XXIV was an unconventional pope who went against traditional Catholic doctrine and was practically a Protestant. I think it was the authors' attempt to have it both ways on this point.

It was weird because the differences between Catholicism and most types of Protestantism don't, especially as interpreted today, seem that significant, let alone enough to make a difference in getting to Heaven or being "saved."

For the authors to suggest that Catholicism was fatally flawed, that the Luther positions are essential to be not being condemned, felt really petty, showing that they were just ranting about everything they had issues with. Although that was their position generally, that everyone that wasn't or didn't become like them would side with the devil.

And a controversial point as well, I'd imagine
