Why did the insurance company pay anything at all since it was Luca who was driving the car?
Do they really pay in those cases?

because the car that hit and killed the cyclist belonged to Maximiliano.
Their car insurance had to pay something!

In Italy the norm is for car insurance to cover the vehicle, regardless of who is driving the car

Different laws in our country.
