Trailer sells a completely different movie then the synopsis

I do see parts of it with Shia with a beard and showing his son but it makes it look mainly about a soldier dealing with PTSD.

I was about to post the same damn thing... the film looks amazing but the synopsis seems to be written for a completely different story

This is what happens when trailer companies make movie trailers for movies they no nothing about. You're left wondering if this is a movie on PTSD or a post-apocalyptic search for a missing son?

reply

exactly , halfway through the movie i'd worked that out , and switched it off feeling conned

reply

Metaphorically presenting PTSD. The post-apocalyptic would be the "feeling" of those who have the problem, they do not recognize the people close and themselves. Need to rediscover themselves and their lives.

I saw it over a year ago at a film festival and the post apocalyptic part is just a backdrop for the actual issues he's dealing with. The trailer is showing the PTSD part of it while the synopsis is trying not to give too much away.

reply

Yeah i got a feeling that it was about PTSD, also his friend played by Jay Courtney seems to be a 'imaginary friend' after the real one died over there, probably in that room.

is it any good i read a review which said it sucked

I read the synopsis before watching the trailer and it has confused me too. The trailer just makes it look like an ex soldier with PTSD and his struggles to recall what happened to him, plus the element of him looking for his son. Nothing in there hinted at a post apocalyptic America.

Calling my shot: his buddy Jai Courney is a ghost in his head (A friend who died in battle), but the movie won't reveal that until the end.
Holy crap! It's Nick Sparks' SAFE HAVEN but with soldiers!!!

Had been looking forward to this movie for over a year, do to the synopsis, and my absolute love the the Post Apocalypse theme. Now after finally seeing a trailer, I am very confused? This looks nothing like a post apocalypse movie in any sense of the imagination.
I have read some that say that is only because it deals with his PTSD and him trying to get back in touch with his son. Guess I will watch it and reserve any dislike for false advertisement until then.

The synopsis is written as such to not blatantly give away the full plot until the third acts. The company that cut the trailer obviously didn't get the memo and decided they wanted to give as much of the plot away as possible. The actual synopsis A homeless soldier searches for his family in a post apocalyptic America that is really only a manifestation of his delusional paranoia stemming from PTSD due to a tragic incident in Afghanistan.
