Does Samir ever take responsibility?

It was very disturbing that the couple committing adultery kept blaming others for the pain and complexity in their lives. Marie blamed her daughter as the cause of the suicide. Then Samir blames Naima... You idiots were the liars and the sinners living in adultery. They kept blaming others. Whether the wife read the emails or not, they are the main reason for all the pain everywhere.

I quite agree that Marie and Samir (not to mention others, such as the eldest daughter and the employee at the dry cleaning shop) made extremely poor choices and tended to blame others. However, the term "adultery", while technically accurate, may not be the best way to describe a very unusual situation. For instance, here is a real-life story about a technically "adulterous" arrangement:

This is not analogous to Barry Peterson's situation with his Alzheimer's stricken wife. He was not cheating on her before she had Alzheimer's. He entered into a new relationship after his wife could no longer remember him. Marie and Samir were cheating before Samir's wife entered her vegetative state, and as the movie shows, it is the REASON she chose to attempt suicide, putting herself in that state.

The person you are replying to is on the money. They want to blame the daughter for sending emails to the wife, and the employee for giving the daughter the email address, but ultimately they were to blame for THEIR behavior. They want to blame the people who let the wife find out about their behavior, rather than take the blame for THEIR behavior.

Completely agree with OP. I wanted to smack the both of them during all the blame dodging scenes. She clearly still had feelings for her ex husband, he cared a great deal for his still-married-to wife. I understand when couples get into a rut, it's much easier to call it quit than stay miserable to work things out. People like Marie and Samir may want to look into lives as a single parent, at least until they become more emotionally available. Adult toys can keep them warm in the mean time

I really wanted a scene in the end where they both realise this and admit there responsibility.
