Uninteresting
I love the Seven Samurai and the 1960 Magnificent Seven. I was wary to see this at first. The main reason for this is because if all the poor remakes recently being released (recently being since 2006- yep, I'm old).
The cast is decent. Three of my favorite actors are in this, Washington, Hawk, and D'Onofrio. Lee Byung-Hun was great in the good, the Bad, and the wierd as well as I saw the Devil. I don't understand why people like Chis Pratt. I've seen him do fine in a few movies but he's totally miscast in this. Must be a starlord thing (he was in marvel. Don't worry about consistency).
The plot is the same, but less interesting. The characters are given okay backstories, but I think it was handled better in the 60 version.
It's overly slow and uninteresting. The action is okay, but I think you'd be better off with the original Seven Samurai or the 60 version.
Some people complain about the villian. It's true that Eli Wallach was charismatic and interesting. The Seven Samurai didn't put too much emphasis on this. That's why it doesn't bother me here. It's hard to surprass Wallach and it helps to establish a villian. So they did what they could. It's just okay.
It's not great or terrible. It's forgettable and uninteresting.
