Started out good, then...
... unfortunately degenerated into a super-hero, video game-style shooting gallery. I actually liked new the band of mercenaries, and the way we are introduced to them, better than the original. Then, they spoil it with a mindless, boring shoot-out finale. The original was much better than this in regards to the shoot-out ending. In fact, "Seven Samurai" final battle was better than this.
One more thing -- the music score. Why do the new movies have the same, boring music? Kettle drums. Low notes constantly repeating. You could take this modern movie music and put it in a Super Hero movie, or an Action Movie, and you would not know the difference. All the same. Why? What ever happened to interesting movie scores, like the original "Magnificent Seven" score? They played the original briefly at the closing credits. What an improvement.
