Does the original have more camraderie between the 7?

This was a standard shoot em up for me. I didn't empathize with the townsfolk, the villain was one-dimensional, and the 7 didn't have any real bond between them (except Goodnight and Billy) and were just out for a payday (at least until we learn about Chisolm's backstory at the very end).

I still plan to watch Yul Brynner's version. But (no spoilers) does that do a better job of making me care about the protagonists?

Not much, one of them is downright annoying tbh.

Really? They (original and remake) were hired guns, camraderie (sic) would be something they avoided + they wouldn't have gone around getting into fights as they did in the start of this movie.

I thought so. McQueen and Brynner's characters get along, and while the rest is not a "band of brothers", they respect each other.

Crud-- can't edit. But the people they help are poor Mexican farmers, there is no gold anywhere, and they help out of a sense of wanting to do some good. The bad guy isn't one dimensional, either.
