The pacing of this film was all wrong

It wasn't edited properly. The music was on during the wrong times, the silence scenes were all wrong and didn't have an impact because of it, didn't give us enough time to sink in the characters and their drive. The flashbacks were well done though.

The actors were great, the story line was great, but the pacing of this film felt completely off. It could have been a great film and even oscar worthy if they had tackled it properly.

What is your problem? If you don't agree then just say you don't agree, no need to insult me.

God forbid, anyone has any type of criticism. Did I say that the film was horrible and that I didn't like it? All I said was the pacing was completely off. :/

You must do it better for us, and we'll decide if we agree with you after we see it.

If I had the chance of going back in time and taking over the editing, I would jump at the opportunity. But unfortunately I can't, so what's your point?

Those are examples of what films you thought should have won, which does not mean that the oscars are not credible anymore. To a degree, I do agree that the Oscars aren't everything, but even a nod gives everyone that has worked in the film bragging rights. A nomination in itself has a title when introducing an actor, director, or composer.

When introducing a new film in the trailer: "2 time oscar nominee [insert name]"
Even if they don't win, a nomination is still great enough.

I liked this film and wished it had gotten an Oscar nod, just like Saving Mr.Banks. But because the pacing was wrong, it was completely ignored. Say what you like, the film could have been better.

BetterLikeThis, I really appreciate when you correct the people who try to say this movie isn't true, or who criticize Maria for selling the painting, but with your post here you really come off as oversensitive. It seems that you don't allow anyone to criticize the movie, about anything.

Everyone thinks he/she is a critic. It's the easiest thing in the world to sit back and take potshots at someone else's hard work and creativity, at no effort or expense to yourself.

My reaction was, no the easiest thing in the world is to dismiss any opinion you don't like with, "everyone thinks he/she is a critic." This is a discussion board. People are allowed to post their opinions for discussion, even ones you don't agree with. And you are free to disagree, and preferably argue your case, not just criticize the person for having the audacity to post. And it's not like the OP is the only one. Frankly, while I liked the movie and am glad it got this story out to the public, I can't help thinking it could have been done better, and that is the opinion of several people I know personally.

I just find it annoying when someone makes a facile pronouncement like "the pacing was off", without explaining exactly how they think so and what they would have done differently.

But in this case, the person DID explain what they meant by it, and imo the post also touches on what they would have done differently.

It just seems smug and glib

And it reminds me of being at university, where far too many very young and inexperienced hipsters felt they were oh so clever and witty, to be able to snicker and sneer at someone else's hard work and creativity.

Again, I think you are reading something into it that just isn't there. The person did not come across smug, glib, clever, or witty. The person was simply making a valid criticism. Just one you don't agree with.

It kept me rapt and on the edge of my seat...even though I knew the outcome. My husband was even more involved. So, I really cannot agree with your assessment of the pacing.
