Wasn't Klimt being satirical?

I cannot possibly be the only person who's noticed this...

Gustav Klimt, an artist, has to paint portraits for rich people to earn a living. Is this really what artists want to do? No. A very rich family asks him to paint a woman's portrait and he smears gold all over most of it. I mean, if that isn't a sly statement I am the Cheshire Cat!

reply

Duh yes, you are about the only person to say this is something worth mentioning. Klimt used gold leaf as just another colour in many paintings including still lives, abstracts and landscapes, (his father was an engraver of gold). So go get your saucer of milk kitty and get yourself a book about Klimt's art at the same time.

Wow, you really are the Queen of Snark. Does your fiefdom contain any subjects or have they all left for better parts and left you all alone in the Snark Castle, hissing and whimpering to yourself?

reply

No, my fiefdom is pretty full because not everyone is proud of their lack of any kind of knowledge and those who do like to be seen as have some kind of smarts feel at home here. There is a never ending stream of idiots who are not in the least embarrassed when they display their total lack of knowledge, but they are not welcome to the Kingdom.

This can be rectified, you could always try reading up on a subject before posting something crass and idiotic. Like not knowing that Klimt's 'Golden Period' is pretty well known in the wider world of people who like his work. And anyone who posts that the portrait of Adele is smeared with gold should really get their eyes checked and then look at the painting wearing their new glasses. You don't smear gold leaf.
