One thing I found quite off putting...
was how grubby Alina and Mal were. Their hands and fingernails at times were almost black with dirt and sometimes their faces weren't much better. I bet they smelled bad too. Yuck !
I actually appreciated that part of this. There is no way they would be clean. That is one reason why every time I think I would enjoy life in a previous century, I know I probably wouldn't. The stink! Eww.
shareExactly right. In the West now we live like royalty compared to how they got by in the past. My grandmother when she was a little girl lived in a split log cabin built by her father. No electricity and no running water. They had to fetch water from a nearby creek with a bucket. Fuck that !
