Misunderstood By Audiences

People are simply expecting too much from this movie. It's obviously not an action movie so of course it's not going to be extremely exciting. People need to accept that it's just a drama that's meant to tell a great story, which I believe it strongly achieves in. I thought the story was flawlessly structured.

No question it is well-made but realize that many of us don't find the story itself particularly compelling. There really isn't anything novel about it, considering all the good movies that have been made about relationships, both hetero- and homo- in nature.

Totally agree with TxMike. I'm all up for a good romantic movie or a drama. I thought it was fine but very overrated except for the performance which I thought were great.

I think the thing was that a lot of what was going on was very subtle and only implied. If you want to use your imagination and notice that kind of stuff, you appreciate this a lot. But if you want everything to be explicit, it might be disappointing.

It's a great film, with wonderful performances across the board but it's definitely a very slow paced film and won't be for everyone, even for romantic film fans it takes it time with it's story. I thought the central romance was done well, Rooney and Cate had great chemistry. Todd Hanyes did a great job with the direction. And the soundtrack is great.

I don't think Rooney Mara has been as loveable in film since.
