for me, it was a combination of everything, the amazing acting, the directing, the wonderful music, the script, the photography. And Cate Blanchett, of course. 😍

Couldn't agree more, it was a perfect combination of everything, you seemed to forget about the costume, it's beautifully crafted IMO.

reply

Yes, of course, I somehow forgot! The costumes were amazing, especially Carol's clothes.

I didn't like it as much as I hoped. The story seemed very stretched out than it actually was but Rooney Mara was superb.

reply

It was a simple, sweet and believable story, beautifully filmed and sensitively acted. 9/10 stars from me.

Because the whole thing was so cinematic, relying on images rather than dialogue to convey the feelings. Because of the cinematography, the colors, the soundtrack, the exceptional acting, the looks and the silences. One in a thousand.

well said .... awesome movie... for once Hollywood actually got it right!

This.

Because it isn't a simple story spelled-out for simpletons. It's sophisticated and laced with mystery. Because the performances by Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara are beautifully understated. Because the cinematography is seductive and strange at the same time, the music score is poignant and evocative, and the production details are satisfyingly substantial. And because when the final shot cut to black it left me wanting to know what Carol and Therese will do next when they are alone together, and where their future as a couple takes them.
