Audrey homage?

I have just watched Carol and was surprised by the number of Audrey Hepburn film close references I saw. Rooney Mara has a close passing resemblance to Audrey, and I think therefore her look was pushed in that direction.... when she first visits Carols house she is dressed just like Sabrina... and the streets of New York, yellow cabs and exterior window shots of conversation... Breakfast at Tiffany.... also Audrey did her own venture into lesbian genre movies with the Children's Hour and perhaps the photography reminded me a little of Funny Face. All in all I thought it was a beautifully crafted 50's based movie with good pace and great acting. I will watch it again in the hope to find more Audrey references.

Yes, I saw it also.

Most people have compared "Therese" to Audrey Hepburn and because it is set in the 1950s and that was when Hepburn rose to fame it's easy to make the comparison. Therese's hairstyle was popular in the era and that has nothing to do with Hepburn.

When I saw her, though, I thought: Jean Simmons.

I couldn't stop thinking about Audrey Hepburn & Breakfast at Tiffanies all thru the movie.

Therese's hairstyle at the end of the film was totally Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. Which was released in 1953. Another Hepburn film link is the number 42. (Which is a total reference to Hitchhiker's Guide, btw) In 'Charade', Hepburn's hotel room number is 42. As is Carol and Therese's Waterloo room in 'Carol'.

Wow good catch.

I was thinking how, if a movie of Audrey Hepburn is made anytime soon, Rooney Mara should totally play her.

Many posters have likened her to Audrey Hepburn. While I do not disagree, she reminded me even more of Jean Simmons. While equally demure, elegant and wide-eyed, Simmons could also play edgier parts such as in "Clouded Yellow", "Angel Eyes" and "Elmer Gantry", where being attracted to her could spell danger. The comparison added some subtext to this film for me.

I was definitely seeing the connection. There were certain times when she reminded me so much of Audrey Hepburn. A few times, she also reminded me of Keira Knightley.

Every minute I felt I was watching Audrey Hepburn and Lauren Bacall fall in love.
