Carol and The Revenant
Aren´t they the masterpieces of 2015????????
I love them both equally.
My two favorites of the year.

Sometimes I think we're alone in the universe, and sometimes not.
What is the generally-accepted definition of "masterpiece" regarding fictional movies?
I don't think The Revenant will be considered a "masterpiece" in filmmaking. It has phenomenal cinematography, yes, but what about it, exactly, makes it a great combination of story-direction-acting? Compared to other films in its genre: what about it is exceptional? I think John Ford's The Searchers is a masterpiece. The Revenant pales in comparison.
I have no doubts when I say this about Carol: it will be included in film school curriculum. It will be studied, dissected, and considered a classic.
The Revenant through powerful images lingers in the mind. The camera floats around, God-like, recording the mauled man's plight dispassionately. The effect is meditative but more pronounced in the movie's moments of harsh reality. Iñarritu outdid himself with both Birdman and The Revenant, it will inspire so many filmmakers. Sean Penn ,Guillermo del Toro,Mark Romanek(Never Let Me Go) as well as George Martin called it a masterpiece.
I am so happy both Carol and The Revenant got the critical acclaim they deserved.
But this is just my opinion and I highly respect yours.
Hope you have a lovely day.
