Just the opening scene alone was mind blowing (pardon the pun). Jude Law was amazing in this movie, and I thought he had many off the hook moments including the scene where he demanded payback and extra presents from the boss-man. He really demonstrated his acting chops in this movie, and I'm currently looking up his past movies to view.
Same. Unfortunately this came out too early in the year and on not enough screens. Jude Law was sooo good in this movie though. I can't believe in only has like a 6.8 on here though.
They must not have thought his chances were good because if they did they would've released a Little film like this right before push time I would think so it would be fresh in peoples minds. I wish they had because he deserved it. JL was amazing in this.

I thought the opening scene was painfully unfunny. I enjoy a good dick joke but it reminded me of a middle school kid who just discovered dick jokes and can't stfu.
I agree Jude Law was fantastic just like James McAvoy was in Filth. Unfortunately films and performances like these will always be ignored by the snooty, pious members of the mainstream film awards.
Personally, I don't put much value on the awards.....too political to be valid and the ones nominated become nothing more than fake puppets when it comes time to campaign. What all that has to do with worthy performances, I'll never know. HOWEVER, one interviewer told Jude that his performance was Oscar worthy....to which Jude laughed and replied, "Mate, if I'm nominated, I'll GO as Dom Hemingway!" That would be an utter hoot!
OP, after seeing The Holiday, I rented all of Jude's films from Blockbuster online....summer of 2007 was one long Jude Law Film Festival at my house, and I've watched every one since then in the theater. I also saw him in Hamlet on Broadway in NYC 2009.
Jude Law was fantastic, but everything else was off and seemed pointless and second grade. I liked the car accident scene, though. Surreal and very funny in a very dark way.
Totally agreed! Any porn star can do much better than him in the opening scene. He used to be a charismatic, mature actor but now he has degenerated into such a sorry state, so sad. British movies appear to going down to the sewer level day by day. This is one of many evidences that the formerly mighty British Empire with its much admired culture is going though self-destruction.
It was extremely LOUD and unfunny. When the only thing you even chuckle at is the line "Lefty's right," things are dire indeed. The opening scene was ripped off from a particularly offensive scene in "Deadwood.' Law had to know this was crap. Shouting his funny ranty dialog at the top of his lungs was not going to get over on the audience. Why he took this role I don't know.
I wanted Guy Ritchie. What I got was Will Ferrell.
dolores craeg be good to one another. http://doloresgrace.blogspot.com/ I agree...jude's performance was Oscar worthy....it was as if he was delivering Shakespear'se lines from time to time. the humour was so off center but you either got it or you didn't. I got it.
I've been a long-time Jude Law fan. I have his first films and have been disappointed at certain films he's been in. This one is his acting tour de force. Oscar deserved, yes. He may win a Brit award - and he has a few of those. Not only is Law astonishing and breaks all the rules of the actor we've known all this time, the movie actually reminds me of 'A Clockwork Orange'- and that's very high praise indeed!
Agreed. Definitely a performance overlooked. At this point it feels like Jude Law pissed off Hollywood. which is not so much a strike but a hit on the fans. Good actors will find work though. Cheer on Jude, Mel, and countless forgotten others.
