Sadly, none of it rang true (disappointing)

First off, I'm a big fan of Jude Law (he's a really underrated actor)
But nothing in this movie rang true (all the way down to the characters, performances, story and script)
What was advertised as some kind of tour-de-force swearfest/hard-ass/comedy/crime movie......soon found itself as a poster in search of a movie.
The title character dressed like something from the late 70's/early 80's (despite only being in prison for 12 years) and his gruff mannerisms varied from scene to scene (accent, tone and personality) He starts off as a cross between Don Logan, Charles Bronson and Mike strutter......then is relegated to the 'I' character from 'WITHNAIL AND I' (all the more telling by having him teamed up with Richard E. Grant.....whose character lacked stability also)

And then somehow, Law's character becomes soft-spoken in places (occasionally nudged on by the director to swear a bit more) and the character sidesteps from shouty sweary bad-ass.......to sensitive, vulnerable, weakling on a mission to reconcile with his daughter. There are literally no definable characteristics that inhabit the same scene twice.

Now this could/would be taken as plot development....except the character zig-zags in and out of both traits, and the movie itself forgets about either plot strands and decides that swearing is the best order of the day.

A shame really, because if Law had (at very least) stayed in one of the characters, there might have been a semi-decent movie here. What's even more worrying is the fact that people are praising the movie (it's easily one of Law's worst) and the sooner people stop equating 'swearing' as humour.....then studios might one day create a movie worthy of the hyperbole this movie has falsely generated?

I think the 70s style of Dom and Dickie was strange.
