I would have left when.....

That guy told the story about killing his wife!!!!!!!!! Oh my god, there would be no way I would stay in the house with him. I was laughing and yelling at the tv for the black girl to go!! There would be no way anyone black would have stayed for all that creepy crap. And, yes, I am black.

HAHAHAHAAH!

Right? Me too, saturnine-67322. That story Pruitt told was a serious red flag. I kept screaming for all of them to LEAVE, especially Will/Kira. At least Claire got the hell outta there. Kira, bless her heart, was trying to stick it out, but I'm glad she made it to the end. Wasn't expecting that, but Will was figuring sh-- out the moment they got there. Smart guy.

Did Claire make it out okay? The movie didn't make that clear. I thought we'd see her dead in her Prius.

reply

Hmm. I don't know if she was able to drive off completely since Pruitt stopped her but she managed to get out. Did they show her dead in the car? 😱

I went to a showing of this yesterday and Karyn Kusama, Phil Hay, and Matt Manfredi all showed up and did a Q&A session after. Someone asked about the fate of Claire and they weren't specific, but they said "it's what you think". They also said that they initially shot a scene which was supposed to appear after Will freaks out the first time and asks why everyone is being so polite and then Choi shows up. Apparently the initial script included the camera pulling back and showing what happened to Claire, but they decided that it sucked all the tension out of the movie and cut it.

thanks for this info. I think it turned out just right. If there were a scene with Claire dead, it would've been spoon feeding the viewer. I like how this movie assumes the audience is smart enough to figure stuff out.

@luvtzone

I agree with both you and the OP----I would've politely bounced the hell up out of there first chance I got after hearing some creepy fckd-up s*** like that. The ex-husband should have asked the ex-wife, "Wait a damn minute--y'all invited us here along with this MF KNOWING how crazy he was from the get-go? Oh,hell naw---we're noping the fck on out of here right now!" Last week I caught a Seth Meyers show in which the actor who played the creepy dude (John Carroll Lynch) was on and doing a spoof of the creepy roles he's known for playing----here it is right here. Of course the first thing I thought of was his role in THE INVITATION,since I've only seen him in comedy and other normal roles:

Thanks. Now I know Claire died.

i would have left even earlier. immediately after the video i would have been a goner.

reply

After that snuff film, I would've left too

reply

I would have done the same, and started feeling weird when the girl was introduced.

reply

I swear she came up and kissed David on the neck when they first introduced her. I was convinced they were going to go with a polyamorous relationship twist at first.

reply

They definitely had some weird tantric sex.

I just LOVE your post! It reminds me of when I saw Goodnight Mommy :

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3086442/reference

at a local theater. There were three black girls sitting in front of us and when the movie ended, they got up, and one of them said, "stupid white people movie". My girlfriend and I burst out laughing, even though we are both pretty white, because they were 100% correct. That was the best part of that movie!

reply

Hahahhaaaa! @THE HUNGRY

reply

This is seriously one of the funniest movies I've seen in years. The whole theater was laughing so often. I felt they lost the premise before the opening credits. Who continues on to a dinner party after brutally beating an animal to death with a tire iron?

reply

Oh yes, I'm sure the whole entire theater was laughing hysterically the whole time. Give me a *beep* break.

reply

I believe it. You ever see a horror movie on the big screen? The place is always full of teenagers, who don't want to appear scared, so they constantly break the tension by laughing. When they re-released The Exorcist more than a decade ago, it was like that. Laughter the whole time.

Fear makes them uncomfortable, so they distance themselves from feeling what the movie is trying to get them to feel.

\o/ STEVE HOLT!

reply

Agreed. I went to see The Ring and there was a lot of teenagers and other talky people in the crowd. They laughed at every turn.

reply

Agree entirely with the OP. I would have been gone after learning I was hanging out with a murderer too.

Either that or as soon as they showed the video/started the cult pseudo enlightenment babble. What a bunch of vapid *beep*

I thought the movie was mildly engaging on the whole. Not upset I watched it. It was really hard to believe though that Will would have stuck around that long, especially for his girlfriend's sake.

reply

I wouldn't. Not after he offered to move the car for Claire and her car never left the front of the house.
