Steve Was So Cruel

Am i alone in thinking that Steve saying at the end of episode 10 of season 2 "Hope you have a miscarriage" was just too far?
I'm no prude by any stretch of the imagination, but to say that..

It certainly was cruel, but he was very angry with her. Sometimes, as I'm sure you well know, we say things we don't really mean when we are very angry.

He had to have an intervention the next episode. So I think it was intentional to be cruel. I laughed at everything from this show and even thought that was too low even for him. But there's a reason he had an intervention directly after this, because he was as low as he could get.
