Steve's gun - possible plothole

OK obviously the arc of Steve getting a gun & accidentally shooting Jim was a reflection of Jim's anti-gun mania. They do make a point of how he had a 10-day waiting period to get a pistol. But, at least in Cali, you need a special permit to carry it around. Not only does he start doing that as soon as he gets it, he loses it, gets it back, and is carrying it again on the nite Jim is accosted & ends up shooting him. It ain't easy to get a permit and there is a jail sentence for some1 caught carrying without one. I was watching the episode while doing something else; I saw them in the store, Steve buying the cheapest one they had, but don't remember the store clerk or Steve mentioning anything about a permit. Did they? Or he just kept up his DGAF attitude and recklessly took his chances?

lol it was easier getting my conceal and carry licenses than my real estate license :P

If you can legally purchase a firearm, you can obtain a carry permit.
Even in California.
The only "plot holes" would be:

1. Carrying the gun into a place that serves alcohol
2. Steve receiving his gun back shortly after shooting Jim
3. Steve not being charged after the evidence pointed towards the shooter being behind Jim and not in front of him.

Not certain why Jefferies decided to incorporate his anti-gun views into an episode in this manner. However, when he did, it was unlikely that he would do so in a manner that reflects the facts or the law.

No, there's a difference between 'must issue' & 'shall issue'. I asked because I was hoping you'd found a workaround or method to expedite, but no1 in LA county gets a carry permit, unless they're being stalked, a celebrity, or a celebrity being stalked. It'd be gr8 and logical if all Cali was 'must issue', but the 'shall issue' counties simply don't.
I think Steve stuck with the story that the other guy shot Jim, and Jim didn't remember Steve even having it - so Steve may have had to turn his gun into the cops because he said he shot the attackers, but since they bought his story they gave it back fast.As far as why the ridiculous story line, check any other show - any time a character gets a gun, they end up almost or actually shooting some1 by accident. It was an episode on All In The Family, Family Ties, and many other shows - it's a tv trope. You never see a family getting a gun & shooting it to defend themselves or scare off intruders, for example. Jeffries came out again last year with another stereotypical rant. It was a stupid way to finale a funny series.
