Not passing as a man

Its very distracting how she is supposed to become a he when she always just looks like a woman dressed as a man, rather than passing as a man.

Then of course there is no way that trans-man could ever turn into Ethan Hawke.

It's been so long since I've seen this film that I don't remember specific plot points, but I do remember thinking that she never really looked like a man.

Ironically, in this movie where Sarah Snook supposedly becomes a man, she's probably never looked better. I've always been ambivalent about her looks, but when she is still in full-on female mode in this film she looks better than she's looked in anything else I've seen.

yah i also thought the same thing at the bar.

she's like "i know.. im a woman" and i was like that's zero surprising

Yeah it was a huge distraction and a major head-scratcher how we were supposed to believe that after reconstructive surgery she suddenly goes from barely-masculine female to full-on chad Ethan Hawke.

Sarah Snook becoming Ethan Hawke is obviously the biggest flaw of the movie and I feel like it would be impossible to pull off perfectly no matter who the actors were, but when Sarah Snook is playing a man I don't think she's supposed to be convincing. When the character goes into the bar you hear someone calling him a freak. Ethan Hawke is obviously playing dumb when he's surprised to find out it's a woman.

reply

He is neither playing dumb nor is he surprised. He knows exactly who he is talking to, because he already went through the whole situation before...
