Why take the baby?
I mean this was necessary to make events unfold the way they did, but why did he choose to take the baby?

shareI think I get it: the agent is not allowed to make significant changes to past events, except when it comes to the fizzle bomber. I get it, but I don't really get it.
sharehe is not supposed to chase the fizzle bomber because he is the fizzle bomber, but when his time machine fails to deactivate on his final jump he cant help himself. that is why they are puzzled how the fizzle bomber changes the date of the terrorist attack.
shareI am trying to get this silly movie out of my head, but I thought the baby, and all the rest of the characters were all him. So as he got older and understood what was happening he had to complete the circle?
shareYes they are all the same person. But I would that would be all the more reason not to take the baby, because taking the baby caused so much pain for his younger (female) self.
shareHe was boxed in, I think, he had changed things, so that if he did not take the baby it would disrupt time. The responsible thing to do I think, close the loop.
