So John never recognized the lover as himself?

This movie had an interesting concept, but one plot hole that potentially made it fall apart for me was that after Jane became a man, she/he never noticed that "hey, I look a lot like that a$$hole that I fell in love with and who left me all those years ago?" Seriously... this one question would have torn apart the logic of this whole movie.

Comes up often. He did see the resemblance:

Every time I looked at my new appearance I was reminded of that bastard that ruined my life. That's some messed up irony I guess.

The 'resemblance'?

So what about 'hey, I don't just look like him, I also happen to have the exact same big scars on my body as that dude did...

Indeed the one big plot hole I could not get over. Still a fun movie though. 8/10.

There's a possibility John hid the scars from Jane somehow. It's similar to the fights, in that the older version should remember how he was beaten as the younger version and replicate the same moves. Or the conversations, where the older one essentially echoes the other side of the convo as he remembers it from the younger version's side. If Jane never saw the scars on John's body, John only has to do the same things he remembers John doing when he was Jane, and, presto!, Jane stays clueless.
