Why the surprise?


Why did the Barkeep seem genuinely surprised when John started his story, "When I was a little girl..."

Do you mean that he reacted that way to convince John that he was surprised that he (John) wasn't always a dude? I guess that makes sense. I guess I was confused because I had pegged John as a woman, so when he said, "When I was a little girl," I wasn't surprised.

Essentially Barkeep does it because that's how he remembers it happening when he went through that very conversation when he was John.
