A blockbuster that is as epic as it is profound!

"The stakes on the line in this action adventure are not only sky-high but soul-deep. Whedon hits both points with an almighty wallop, resulting in a large canvas blockbuster that is as epic as it is profound." - Matthew Pejkovic Top Critic

Does anyone want to try and dispute this critic quote? I see angry bitter bash attempts that have sprung up out of jealousy over Marvel's success but I've seen very little actual critique of the movie itself.

The movie itself is damn good and is getting praise by most that have actually seen it. Most movie sites (fan based or otherwise) are pointing out just what worked and words like "epic" and even "profound" are popping up all the time. Some fans are taking time to point out what they would have liked to have seen instead in certain cases. With blockbusters that are this big, it's natural for expectations to run high.

Those are real indications of true word of mouth. On these pages at the moment, the haters are taking advantage of people in the USA avoiding IMDB for fear of spoilers. Yet, in life the truth often wins the day.

Watch and learn and try to refute that proper assessment above. You know you legitimately can't.

But you haven't seen it... just what I was talking about.

reply

Then you obviously know nothing of his work

reply

[deleted]

Then you haven't seen Avengers or Serenity...

reply

or actually seen this movie. Whedon is as cinematic as it gets. On and even now above Spielberg levels.

reply

I doubt people would be making these "Whedon movies look like TV" comments if they didn't know that he first worked on TV.

reply

Okay, I will take everything I read with a grain of salt then because the first Avengers movie, directed by Wheddon, was EPIC.

reply

The first AVENGERS movie was TV with $200m effects.

If you thought that was epic you need to watch true cinema epics.

You only watched a movie on television, but you think you've actually seen it properly?

reply

Peter Travers says: AOU is "a spectacle that's epic in every sense of the word." And that guy may be the heir apparent to Ebert as far as critics go.

reply

All I could think about after I saw AoU is how it instantly stacks up to the all-time great films. What I said about now classics like Iron Man, Avengers, Winter Soldier, Spider-Man 2, X2, X-Men DOFP and even Captain America The First Avenger is still all true and Avengers AoU hangs with the best of them. One of the best ever.

reply

That's why this movie did in fact blow everyone away.

reply

it really didn't

reply

What a wonderful movie.

reply

Not really off topic since everything Disney is related, Walt Disney has named Cindy Davis -- an executive VP of global customer insight and analytics for Wal-Mart, to a new post as its executive VP of consumer experience for the TV group.

Here we go again.

reply

If anyone think AOU is epic , than I think they are just die hard Marvel fans who dont care about what a movie lacks and just because it has a Marvel logo and a joking Robot and dumb one liners and declare it EPIC

It is a good movie and one of the best action in all CBM.But it is far from the word EPIC

reply

Did you think the first movie was Epic? I'm expecting a no.

reply

I be honest. I didnt find it epic but Ihave seen the first for like 50 times and i enjoyed it a lot ( other than loor CGI ).

TDK is an epic movie for me in CBM genre.

AOU is not and never will be an Epic movie for me. It is below TWS, Avengers 1, IM1.

reply

The action-packed flick is a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable experience. If you're a comic book fan, it's impossible not to love AoU!

That says it all right there.

reply

"Avengers: Age Of Ultron is a big, bold, funny, thrilling, absorbing triumph, and continues Marvel Studios' seeming push for world cinematic domination."

- Erin Free FILMINK

reply

It wasn't really that epic but it was close

reply

Close enough to make me smile when thinking about the movie two months later.

reply

I saw it last Friday here in the UK and I guess it fits the definition of "epic" insofar as it's a celebration of demigods (and it's quite long), but profound? Nah. An ensemble film like this can never really run deep because it needs to find a balance between a mass of competing egos. Surprisingly, Hawkeye is the best-sketched character in AoU, but his "ranch" scenes are like a whole different movie. Iron Man seems more constipated than ambivalent. The twins are an angsty bore. The darker tone doesn't fit with Whedon's tendency to finish every scene with a punchline. The romance felt forced and ends on a silly narrative note. The script lacks the sparky dynamism of the first film, which also had a more interesting baddie.

So, I would disagree with Mr Pejkovic. But to each their own I guess.

Let's make it 4 years!

I’ve noticed this trend in the past. Anyone who would give this movie a negative review is either trying to get attention for themselves, someone from a competing movie at the box office, a scrooge or an idiot. Take your pick.

Amen to that!

reply

Avengers AoU is a masterpiece any way you cut. It takes the genre to new heights and there are even those that are say it should be nominated for best picture this year! When you deliver the best film your genre has ever seen, how is that not deemed a masterpiece?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gCBiJ3QJnk&feature=player_embedded

reply

a masterpiece? are you joking? it was some-what entertaining fun but nothing more than explosions and big fight scenes and set pieces. what's so 'profound' about age of ultron? there's no underlying deep themes here.

if the 'dark knight' didn't get a best picture nomination, then why should a so-so comic book film get one? that makes no sense.

AND the first avengers film is FAR FAR superior to it's sequel in every way possible.

reply

Who would have ever thought that a few years back when we heard this....

“There was an idea, to bring together a group of remarkable people so when we needed them they could fight the battles that we never could. Gentlemen, what are you prepared to do?” – Nick Fury

...that we would have experienced two films that are this damn good?

reply

Sorry but how is AoU profound?

"Small moves Ellie, small moves"

reply

Ever hear of themes and character depth? Whedon only does "profound" or he doesn't do it at all.
