The median consensus is that AoU is a GREAT film and a win for Whedon

So, this article has been discussed here ...

http://avwire.com/2015/06/10/avenging-mr-whedon-an-analysis-of-the-backlash-following-the-release-of-age-of-ultron/

but this line trumps all other talk...

"Overall the median consensus is that it was a great film and a win for Whedon."

That is the line that matters most in that article. Giving voice or even taking time to answer the intended over-exaggerations revolving around the Prima Nocta joke or the ridiculous assertions surrounding Black Widow's origin is absurd to say the least.

"These two 'offenses' ruffled feathers so much that people almost literally dusted off their pitchforks and lit up torches."

No one who wasn't already an intended troll and hater cared one bit. They used these two topics as an excuse to try and bash an exceptional sequel. These were simply fans of other franchises and anti-Marvel people looking for a way to lash out at their perceived "arch-enemy." If Whedon had wrote the same exact things in to a Serenity 2, not one peep would have been heard. End of story.

A better point is that Avengers being the big boy on the block is drawing the same type of jealous backlash on different fronts. These boards illustrate it very well. When you're the best and deliver quality, envy and bitter behavior keeps calling. That's life at the top.

Bottom line is...

More than half the things people decided to bitch and complain about only made me want to thump my head against a wall in frustration.

And most of that is simply because I'm a fan of the Avengers comics old and new. So I knew what Ultron should be like. I knew what the twins should be like. I knew what Vision should be like. And what they were all like in the movie is exactly like how I thought they would be.

I also never allow my expectations of a movie, a game, a book, a TV show, etc. get too high. So Age of Ultron didn't even remotely fail to meet my expectations. In some cases it even succeeded them.

All in all I got a sequel I loved as much as the first one, but for different reasons. More importantly I got an Avengers movie that felt like the comics... like it should be.

Idk why this is still debatable. AoU is financially and critically successful. Very much so. Certified Fresh on RT, top 250 iMDB, Cinemascore A, one of the highest grossing films to have ever existed, etc...

I think it's time we finally buried this dead horse.

Age of Ultron is a good movie.

reply

It is a good movie, I agree. I just think a lot of people had ridiculously high expectations for it and lost sight for what it was instead of what it could have been.

reply

Yeah you cant please everyone. In my opinion, the movie was good.

reply

I was disappointed, but it's not the end of the world. I'm sure Mr Whedon will go on to make other movies and this is the first Marvel movie that I have been disappointed with. I'll survive and will go and watch the next film in the franchise. It wasn't a disaster and some parts of the film were very good IMO.

Micheal Douglas in Ant-Man?

More Oscar winners joining the MCU by the day. (Marisa Tomei?)

It's not in the top 250 though, I agree with the rest of course.

The Russos will be great, however.

Reed was such a better choice than Edgar Wright that's it's not even debatable at this point.

I'm thankful for Marvel movies. I really am.

Correct. Same with TDKR. Sometimes the critics and audience are wrong.

Then, would the marvel fans technically also agree that MoS was a well-received by the general audience (not only the Internet) since that too has a 7.2 IMDb rating and once had an 8.0 at this point in its release like AoU? Can't have both

reply

Honestly, I thought MOS was an alright film, good start for the DCU, it just pisses me off that some (trolls?) people are putting the DCU on a pedestal with just one film, when the MCU has a dozen or so. One film comes by that doesnt live up to standards, its like the whole things comes crashing down or something lol

I dont know, I'm excited for Ant-man regardless.

reply

* MCU thing*

The DCU is a joke because the Batman the are jamming in to it isn't even Nolan's Batman. They've raced to erase crap like Catwoman and Green Lantern for a reason as well. The DCU is 0-1 with a huge flaming turd to start their attempt. Judge that to Iron Man when the MCU was an impressive 1-0 with everything set up perfectly.

reply

Like AoU, Man of Steel was financially successful, but still a disappointment. Studio was expecting 1 billion from MoS, studio was expecting 1.5 from AoU.

Critically, it's mixed. A 7.2 is barely above average, and I think the only reason it isn't a 6.8 is because it's the only DC film that the fans have to defend.

reply

These numbers don't lie.

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $457,744,064
Foreign: $943,800,000
Worldwide: $1,401,544,064

AoU is as big as hit gets really.

reply

Agreed. It was extremely successful, just not as successful as most expected it to be.

reply

And there's nothing wrong with that. A movie made and marketed for 250 million that makes over 1.4 billion is a big enough hit. As long as we keep getting more, I'm happy. In fact, Marvel not being content fat cats is a good thing. I'm glad it came in a bit short of the first. It makes them concentrate more going forward.

lol Jesus Uber Talk about Confirmation that Your really upset ...

I mean who makes a "The median consensus is that AoU is a GREAT film and a win for Whedon" thread?

lol the answer is someone who knows that AOU is considered a Big step down from The Avengers and is upset about it.

Seriously Uber, There is nothing you can say or nothing you can point to that proves AOU is "Great Movie"

Literally in any way you judge a movie, AOU is considered "decent To Good"

lol Read the reviews, well first 1/4 of the reviews are negative, that takes "great" out right there, second, Even the Positive reviews aren't that Positive and have Major complaints about the Movie.

lol Uber AOU, was a massive hit and got "decent to good" reviews, You dont need to lie and resort to HUGE exaggerations like this...

Why can't you just except The Movie for what it was, why do you have to lie to yourself and others?

I could understand you doing this if AOU got terrible reviews and and had a horrible box office run, I mean your clearly A Massive Marvel fan, So if AOU failed I could understand why you'd do this, But It didn't, AOU was just a MASSIVE Success and is considered by the Majority to be a "Decent To Good" movie...Its weird that you cant be happy with that, Its creepy that you have to lie to yourself,.

Also nice to see that your still using the top10dude sock account, lol I see all my time posting your sock accounts is really starting to get to you, so your breaking out "Old Sock Accounts"

But Unfortunately for you, your still just awful at trolling, lol This sock account like all your others were made exactly 10 years at the exact same time millthrill,shacklefort,avengers1234,xdomes and captainamerica50 were made...

What deserves being mentioned is how many perfect little scene are delivered by this film. Yes, the big set action pieces are extremely impressive but the hundred little ones that flew under the radar are also what makes AoU a great film.
