Age of Ultron is indeed a masterpiece

Roger Ebert used to say: "Your intellect may be confused, but your emotions will never lie to you" as if to say listen to your gut when judging a movie.

Well, when both your head and your heart agree that means that a movie has reached masterpiece levels. Avengers Age of Ultron is such a film.

Everything converged perfectly, delivering the perfect sequel to the greatest genre film of all-time. It really can be considered a continuation of the first film and one long epic. Really, how could these films not be the best of the best? They positioned the first film with FIVE other set up films that were each remarkable in their own right. Then in this phase, we got more individual films that didn’t really set up this story but did flesh out Iron Man, Cap, Black Widow and Thor more robustly. Not only does it all come together but it comes together at the highest level possible.

Believe it or not, they managed to not only recapture lightning in a bottle but they also managed to do so many things differently. It’s an astounding movie. Even though each set up film has been able to stand on their own merit, good results from a team up was anything but assured. In both films, it would have been easy to be overwhelmed by the task of putting all these great character together and making it click but they pulled it off perfectly each time. Maybe it’s because the characters themselves are complex and intriguing and that they have been brought to three dimensional life by people that really care. Whatever the case, everyone AGAIN hits a home run here.

They continue to flesh out perfect cohesion while remembering to include the fun and humor that have made those other films so good. If you define those movies as good then you have to define Age of Ultron as great. It’s a unified step up from solo films in the best way imaginable. The depth and amazement will come from those that have invested in to this universe. What they’ve done is transcend any other of this genre’s films by going deeper and doing so in spectacular fashion with style and fun.

I love this movie, but your post makes me want to hate it.

I'm a leaf on the wind. Watch as I'm needlessly impaled.

The problem with the film is that it was more Avengers 1.5 and less Avengers 2. Way too similar to the first film - it just got boring in many parts. Not to mention Ultron fell like a sack of bricks when the real fighting started.

Seriously?

As boring as the first one

Iron Man trilogy continues to be the pinnacle of Marvel franchises.

Again, everyone is correctly calling Civil War a masterpiece yet I may still regard AOU as a slightly better film. I really do love them both but battling Ultron is greater than battling each other especially when talking about viewing a film multiple times.

OMG. You deranged fanboys are unbelievable. This is not a "masterpiece." Civil War is not a "masterpiece." If you knew anything about cinematography, you would know that these movies are visually generic as sh!t. A movie with a by-the-numbers shot list is NOT a masterpiece.

If any Marvel CBMs can be called a masterpiece, it's X-Men: DOFP and Spider-Man 2.

I think that calling any superhero/comic book movie a masterpiece is a purely fanboy-ish thing to do. The closest thing in that genre that came to the definition of a masterpiece is, of course, The Dark Knight, since it's not even a superhero movie at its core. But Days of Future is definitely a masterpiece in comparison to any MCU movie. Especially to this one.

No argument's here. Days of Future Past is vastly superior to AOU.

Finally something with a brain...

It was entertaining on the big screen but that's pretty much it

Best movie of 2015. Don't listen to these bitter DC douchebags.

Life ought to be a struggle of desire toward adventures whose nobility will fertilize the soul.

And Civil War reflected the master work done here. Without AOU, Civil War has no foundation.

Every Marvel film builds upon the last making everything stronger.
