In the 1980s girls didn't go around with their ears pierced all up and down - no one would have taken such a person seriously - and no one had those stupid behind-the-ear tattoos.

They really didn't make much of an effort to make it look like the 80s. I'm not sure why they didn't just set it in the time it was made. Maybe they didn't want the characters to have cell phones.
