is this america real?
if yes - i want to go there
shareWhat is depicted in this movie is very close to some areas of Texas. Let me know if you really want to move there, I'll fix you up with a relocation specialist.

Make a choice, to take a chance, to make a difference.
You know, whenever a film is placed in the American South. People post asking are they really that stupid/ racist/ trashy/ ignorant/ whatever.. Yes there's a seed of truth in every stereo type.
Folks are the same every where! All different kinds. I never truly witnessed racial hatred until I lived in Portland Oregon, a supposed bastion of open mindedness, (and I'm from the "redneck " South ").
It takes all kinds to make a world.
If you are still reading this board, I am interested in what examples depict racial hatred in Portland, as it seems that racial hatred might be stronger in the South where previously Blacks could not drink at certain water fountains or sit in certain restaurants, etc etc. I live in neither location so I am just seeking to understand your observations.
shareThere are places like that in every state. I'm sure you could find them on your own if you looked for them.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

Tragic
shareThere are a lot of small towns in Kentucky almost exactly like this.
There was also a place in Kansas... maybe some place close to Kansas City I think? I can't remember it's been a long time since I was there -- but anyway it was almost identical to that. I found places like that disgusting and it was impossible for me to sleep or enjoy eating because it was so filthy. Only visited there for a few days because of a friend's relative was there... but ugh.
Also, another relative lived in Arkansas in a city similar to the one depicted in the film: a poor, rural area where the only thing people do is drink and have sex.
Thanks. Great info.
That's why 'pennsa-tucky' from OITNB was so shockingly yuk. Ok.
