Thank you for your service, 007
The fifth - and final - outing for Daniel Craig's James Bond has the usual top notch production values and beautiful location photography. Craig gives a good performance (after having seemed disinterested in 2015's Spectre), Léa Seydoux returns as Dr. Madeleine Swann, and Lashana Lynch makes her Bond debut as Nomi, the new 007 following Bond's retirement. Jeffrey Wright returns as Felix Leiter (the first time since Quantum of Solace), whilst regulars Ralph Fiennes as M, Ben Whishaw as Q, and Rory Kinnear as Bill Tanner are reliable as ever. However, Rami Malek's new bad guy Lyutsifer Safin lacks presence and feels underdeveloped - Christoph Waltz 's Blofeld does far more with far less screentime.
The films slumps heavily in the middle, and could have easily shaved ten minutes from its 2hr 43min runtime, but when the action pieces come they're good. Ana de Armas deserves a special shout out as high-kicking CIA agent Paloma - it's a shame she didn't feature more heavily. As for the (divisive) ending, I was fine with it. Given the direction they decided on, it made sense. 7/10.
