Man's Natural Lie Detector

"Men can't mask their sexual desires because it is revealed by their boners". Whether this is completely true or not, it was a rule established in the context of this film.

In the end, when Seligman approaches Joe with his bottom half exposed, he never obtains an erection and masturbates awkwardly. I think this demonstrates that he really was asexual.

My take on the ending was that he longed to experience and be a part of this sexual dimension that drives humanity and saw Joe as his savior. Remember the "spontaneous orgasm on the mount" where Joe has visions and replaces Jesus in the "Transfiguration of Jesus". Even though Seligman states he is non-religious, he is quite moved by this story.

Throughout the entire film Joe empathizes with murders and pedophiles but in the end is unable to empathize with an asexual. I felt hypocrisy was the major theme of this movie.
