Another board to play on!

Hi there, viewer of my post.

I believe this is the film that Lee Unkrich, Darla Anderson and Michael Arndt were working on before switching over to Toy Story 3. If that's true, that means this film has been in development for quite a while. It's currently slated to come out 2015 (although I wouldn't be surprised to see this pushed to 2016). Toy Story 3 was announced to be in production around 2006, which means this film might have started back in 2005 or earlier. That gives it at least a ten years production turn-around. It would be interesting if true...

It wasn't here the last time I checked, but I found it last night via Lee Unkrich's IMDB page. :)

And howdy, Mark!

No it isn't. I remember seeing a tweet from lee saying that he had a meeting and if all went well the next few years of his life will be taken. Something to that effect. a few hours later he came back and was excited. He pitched this idea after toy story.

reply

Correct, I saw that tweet too. However, he had an being developing an idea before Toy Story 3 that had not been greenlit at that point. He had to put it on hold due to TS3.

Now he has pitched and got some concept approved. My curiosity is whether this was the concept he had started back then or a new one. If it's new, it seems a little rushed for Pixar production lengths (it seems you are pretty up-to-speed on Pixar, so I assume you know this). If it's that original one, that seems to make more sense to me.

^^

well it is coming out in 2016. since his special meeting it will be about 4 or 5 years until it comes out. that is the basic length of an animated film. plus didn't pixar say they wanted to start doing 2 films a year in the future?

reply

I'm pretty sure the release date hasn't been announced for that one yet, but it probably would be 2016, you're right. Something is currently set for later in 2015 as well, but I assume it's new since they announced it as an "untitled film". So, I guess it is about a normal timeline, they just officially announced a film several years into the future.

Indeed. My concern is how much of that will be more simultaneous teams and how much will be speeding the process up?

2015 is Pete Docter's film.

^ i guess probably more hires. i don't think you can speed up something like animation with rendering and storyboarding. but also it will probably mean more crappy ideas getting made to fill the void. taking a look at dreamsworks line up over the next few years makes me cringe.

"2015 is Pete Docter's film. " Roger that, but they have mentioned another film later that year (like you said, 2 films in a year). Unknown as of now what the film is.

" i don't think you can speed up something like animation" "more crappy ideas getting made to fill the void" Exactly. They will speed up the writing process...boo.

reply

yeah well hopefully they won't screw it up
