Still no Mary Reade...?
?
shareLevine and Steinberg already said no, that they had enough characters, and that Mary was already incorporated into other characters
shareAnd that's a shame because I think they could have done something with her true character, instead of boiling her down into others. For instance, wasn't she supposedly from a wealthy family, but ran away? And then even though she was a ruthless pirate, se used her pregnancy (if there was one) to work the prison system. And then she disappeared entirely. The writers could have had a field say with source material like that. Or maybe that was Ann- in either case, the writers missed a great storyline there.
shareYes, that is Mary Reade.
I thought they might turn the Governors daughter into Mary Reade....
In any case, Max certainly doesn't fit with the character.
Anne Bonny was the one from the wealthy family and ran off with a pirate. I think Anne was the "ruthless" one while Mary was the nicer one.
I think both Mary and Anne tried to use pregnancy to get out of prison time.
They did incorporate the love triangle using Max for Mary, but instead of it being the funny cross-dressing moment from the Pyrates book, it was more a hot threesome. Still cool.
You're right, though, that they missed a great storyline. The whole Pyrates book is rife with good stories to tell, but I guess Levine and Steinberg had other ideas.
There was a possibility that Max would become Mary and sail the seven seas with Jack and Anne when Nassau implodes. But I doubt it now. Maybe if she hadn't betrayed Jack and Anne.
The show writers already said that 2 female characters is 2 too many. Expect them to be killed off.
ew 😛

Anne lived to a ripe old age. There's only so much tweeking of history S&L can do without being destroyed online by history/pirate fact fans. I hope they get out of this without blowing it.
