Question about Treasure Island from a BLACK SAIL FAN

First off I've been away for a while, and then have been busy with the holidays..
So I just found out this will be the last season of black sail! Very upset, but by reading comments from some of the people in this forum, I get it kinda!!
K my questions finally. I never been much into pirate shows till black sail, and I keep hearing the reason behind this being the last season is that it's getting closer to the treasure island show.
I've never watched a single episode, so would y'all think I'd like Treasure Island, being a big black sail fan? If so, could I start watching it now, or would y'all recommend watching the final series of black sails before?Man I'm going to miss this show, with all the creativity, fun to watch story lines, and actually believing stuff like this might have actually happen, I feel like I'm watching a show based off semi true events at TIMES..
I'm really going to miss Capt. Flint, and what a great job the casting crew did, when they snagged Toby Stephens to play Flint!! I knew something was up when they killed capt. Vane off the show, I really enjoyed that love/hate relationship with Vane, and really going to miss him this final season!!
I know some aren't as crazy about black sails like I am, and it's cool, but I really enjoyed the journey with the entire cast, the story lines of betrayal, and I can keep rattling on, I know this a long post, but I still feel like I'm on expressing a fraction of my thoughts on the show!
Well here's to hoping for 1 more epic final journey with Capt. Flint, and crew!!
To the main actors of the show, wish y'all nothing but the best in this business, y'all have earned it!!
Even enjoyed seeing Toby Stephens in 13 hours, even though it was short scenes.
Happy New Years to all my shows/movie fanatics out there!!
God bless!!

Treasure Island is very tame compared to Black Sails, but it does have Silver as a truly terrible villain, so you might enjoy it.

That's why I would like to see a follow up movie or mini series several years down the road. I want to see the R rated version of the story.

"Treasure Island" and "Black Sails" are very different.

"TI" was written for a young adult audience. "BS" is a hard R-rating.

Uhm... Treasure island is a novel written by robert louis stevenson, originally published in 1883. There have been many, many adaptations of it, and all have their own strengths and weaknesses. My personal favorite is the recent bbc production with eddie izzard as john silver.

Read the book, watch any of the movies, none of them will spoil the end of black sails, except that you'll know of a few characters who won't die on the show.

The show also uses a lot of real historical figures from that time period, such as jack rackham, anne bonny, charles vane, benjamin hornigold, and edward teach.

Interestingly enough, there is one character from treasure island who was named for a real pirate, israel hands, who sailed with blackbeard/edward teach. He'll be appearing in the final season of the show, so at least they haven't missed that opportunity.

I liked the Eddie Izzard Treasure Island...at least parts of it.
Billy Bones as a Jamaican, and Elijah Woods' Ben Gun were inspired.

I think they tried a little too hard to fit the plot into a "the other 98%" mindset though.
And they were a little soft on Silver's character.
And the production values were a little uneven.

Still, it was worth the watch.

I think the closest adaptation is the Charleton Heston version from the 80s (with a very young Christian Bale as Jim Hawkins....and a great soundtrack by the Chieftons).
It is very close to the book, and a pretty good watch.
