How stupid can John Silver be???
Going to hide in a ship that's underwater??????? He was unbelieveably lucky to find an air pocket!!!

It was actually kind of smart. It was a gamble, sure, but if he finds a part that isn't completely submerged then not only can he breathe, but he's also out of the crossfire.
shareYou have to keep in mind he is an experienced sailor, not your average Joe on the internet. He saw the ship wasn't completely underwater so he knew there had to be air pockets. Also it was his ship so he knew the way to the top, he wasn't going blindly hoping for the best. As for the "less bloody side of the boat" ... you mean the side where everybody died or was taken prisoner? I'd say he made the right call.

The poor little goat, though.
Goats have a lot of air in their digestive systems and they bloat when they die. He could have used her as a raft to float on out of there.
With so much flotsam in the water, would anyone have noticed if he surfaced among it? Indeed, was there even anyone left to see? I thought entering the ship was very risky too.
Do we know the guy he encounters on the beach?
