What was the battle ploy using the ships that led Flint and men into disaster?

I got distracted by a real life happening in my home and was denied a review of the situation.

Rogers sank 3 ships in the harbor when the pirates tried to sail over them they got damaged and unable to move

It basically turned them into sitting ducks since it trapped them within range of the fort's guns.

I WILL NEVER GIVE UP! 

A beautiful move (which the pirates would've been ready for if it weren't for Featherstone)

It was kinda fun seeing Flint so defeated. For me anyway.
