Rachel Getting Married

The first scene we see Anne Hathaway in she's talking on the phone to a customer about a wedding dress. The customer's name is Rachel and she's the one getting married. Anne Hathaway has a line like "That was Rachel - she's getting married".

I found this quite funny, as I felt it was an in-joke, a deliberate reference to the movie Rachel Getting Married. Anne Hathaway starred in Rachel Getting Married and got her first Oscar nomination for that performance.

Anyone else think the Rachel reference was deliberate or was it just coincidence?

I caught it as well. Obviously deliberate.

The film seemed to make several references to past Anne Hathaway films:

"The Devil Wears Prada"
"Rachel Getting Married"
"Princess Diaries"

If you're not taking any steps forward, you're not moving at all.

reply

What was the princess diaries reference?

-Who is it?
-It's Grandpa. And it sounds like he's gotten into the horseradish again.

What was The Devil Wears Prada reference?

reply

Yeah, I caught that  One of Hathaway's best performances.

"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."

reply

- "Passengers" - copying her outfit worn in the plane
- "Becoming Jane" - her characters name
- "Les Mis" - "people were crying" model in the back with pixie
- major screw up with pink chiffon dresses and (another?) Rachel
- watching a classic musical about Hollywood illusions - interesting.

reply

Yes! She said at the end of the call, "And Rachel - have a great wedding!" This line had some emphasis so you could tell it was deliberate. I liked it.
