Was this one long Apple ad??
Seriously was this paid for by Apple? And since when do offices uses macbooks and imacs lol. I guess they wanted to typical hipster stereotype.

shareIf you've ever worked in a hipster startup, you would notice that most of them have macbooks, often covered with ridiculous hippie stickers. (It's the modern day equivalent of the hippie-mobile covered with bumper stickers.)
shareMost all breakout internet companies, especially the creative ones doing media or ecommerce, are dominated by macs. They will have some guys in the tech department managing servers but more and more those servers are Unix. And since macs are Unix ever since Mac OSX was released, many of those tech guys still prefer to use macs now because they get both Unix and a friendly creative front end that matches the rest of the office. Big banks and corporates are obviously dominated by Windows but not companies like in this movie.
shareMacs are built on Linux but realistically there is no comparison in the user experience of a Mac vs a Linux server. They are further apart than Windows and Linux are. Significantly. IT people use Macs sometimes because they are durable and better made machines than low-end windows machines and under those Macs they run virtual machines of linux and Windows to do their actual work.
People in the business world who choose to run Macintoshes for spreadsheets, presentations, etc, suffer significant hardship vs people who run Windows. I know, I see them struggle everyday. Macintoshes are great for some things, and make an excellent personal home machine. In the workplace they are meh, unless you are doing something they specifically do well.
Startup hipster companies, definitely prefer Apple. They struggle too.
I've had a career in banking software for a decade followed by a switch over to a completely different field, internet startups and digital media companies where I've spent another decade. Banking and big corporates make it really hard for Macs but there are always some, usually in marketing and for the creative stuff.
But in my experience, NYC internet companies (from 10-300 employees) are dominated by macs and the employees are overwhelmingly happy. The tech guys usually have biases against them but the end users much prefer macs to windows. Many years ago the tech guys held huge amounts of power to determine the machines users have but that power dynamic has changed and executives push to give users what they want, assuming they can do the job. Again, I'm talking internet companies, some "hipster" some not.
In my experience, which is running sales, business development, marketing, and account management, users in these companies do not "struggle" with macs, and indeed prefer them. My employees usually scream bloody murder at the thought of being forced to use a PC. But I acknowledge that hard core bankers, traders and quants that have massive Excel spreadsheets are much better off on Windows. Mac Excel lacks many of the extensions, macros and programming capabilities that PC Excel has.
When I mean "struggle with Macs" I'm specifically talking Excel. The working world mostly speaks Excel. It's a completely different product on Macs, kind of like spreadsheeting with one hand tied behind your back.
shareI do a massive amount of quantitative analysis for my business and it is all done on a Mac. Never had an occasion where I couldn't do something I needed to do but couldn't. I'm sure there are some things that a Windows Excel can do that Mac Excel can't, but I have never needed such features, and my spreadsheets can get quite complicated. For a while, Mac Excel was much better than Windows Excel, so Microsoft took away the much easier macro features of Mac Excel. Don't get me started on presentations. I can't count the number of times where I have had someone ask me how I got PowerPoint to do what I had just done. The answer is always the same: that wasn't PowerPoint, it was Keynote. Excel is much better than Apple Numbers, but Apple Keynote kicks the living dog $h!t out of PowerPoint.
shareWindows machines are much cheaper, better functionality and better than just about anything over a mac. Graphics arts, music, programming, etc etc. People will say mac because frankly they have to justify the ripoff price they paid for outdated hardware. I mean Apple is releasing Kaby Lake laptops at the end of the year! Thats over a year since they have been out on PC!
